Dengar is a kingdom of Aervel and Dyrfaldur, two species of demihumans. The Aervel are chosen by the gods, whereas the Dyrfaldur are considered inferior. The kingdom only has one college, the impressive and elite Veritas Hall of Divine Virtue College, a war college to prepare nobles for their future.

Harvey is the prince of Dengar. His family was elected as the figurehead for two generations. Harvey is a full blooded Aervel, a winged species favored by the gods. Both the king and queen are full blooded Aervel. His meticulous, controlling personality is put to the test when Jordan struts into his life, trampling over his reality. The situation is made worse when she is chosen by the gods as his partner in an ancient trial to bring back the age of magic. His parents task him with keeping his half sister, Nyx, safe; an impossible task.

Nyx is Harvey’s half sister, and the bastard princess of Dengar. She is a halfblood, illegal in the kingdom of Dengar, having her lineage hidden by her family.The nobles torment her, Kiara, an Aervel noble, and her sidekick, Astris, targeting Nyx. Nyx has little control over her Dyrfaldur side, unable to control her shifts when angry. The more Nyx loses control, the more Nyx is alienated by her family. Nyx faces her ultimate test when bound to Astris in the ancient trial to bring magic back.
