BookFinder Milestone, NaNoWriMo is Rapidly Approaching, and More

Dear Authors, Can you believe it’s already almost the end of October?

If you publish on Amazon, you have five days left to earn money for 2022! (For those who don’t know, this is because there is a two month delay in how Amazon pays authors, so money earned in October will be paid on or around December 29). We hope you had an awesome year!

This is also the last edition of Writerly Wednesday before the start of National Novel Writing Month. We will have a lot more to say about this later in this edition, and throughout the month of November, but if you want to register officially to participate via the NaNoWriMo organization (which is not affiliated with IHS, and you absolutely do not need to do that to participate in our November writing events), you can find more information here. It’s free, and they do have some nice goodies for participants, like discounts on popular author tools, so if you’ve had your eye on Scrivener, ProWriting Aid, or Plottr (to name just a few), it’s worth checking them out.

Lots more topics to cover today, so let’s get to it!

The IHS BookFinder is by far the most popular new feature. Are your books in it?

Submit a Book to the BookFinder GraphicWe passed a milestone earlier this week, one TB has had her eye on for some time. On Monday, October 24, the database reached 1,500 books.

In even better news, we’ve already added another 50. We’re really hoping to hit 2,000 sapphic books by the end of this year and it’s looking more and more possible each day.

We need your help, though. If you haven’t submitted your book(s) yet, please do so. TB would really love to hit that 2k mark.

Here’s the submission form.

Writing Wisdom

TB talks about how writing can be a lonely profession but goes on to explain why it doesn’t always have to be that way. Check it out here.

In fact, the IHS team are joining forces for NaNoWriMo Zoom writing sprints this November. We know that Adrian J. Smith, TB Markinson, and Miranda MacLeod will be there, and we hope you’ll join us! The Zoom links are…you guessed it! Available in the Author Forum on Facebook.

Adrian's Easy Grammar GraphicAdrian J. Smith is a writer and editor who has a not-so-secret love of grammar.

Today’s grammar tip covers common word mix-ups: Defiantly v Definitely. Check it out here.

Miranda says TB defiantly, or is it definitely, needs to check out this tip.

Em Stevens, a developmental editor, breaks down Tropes and Trends: What are they? This is especially useful if you are looking to make the move from writing for pleasure to writing for income. Let Em help you figure out what types of books will sell the best and why.
