Why this book and why now?
My “Whimsical Dreams” series is sapphic romantic suspense about a protection and security company, which takes place in a fictional little town named Whimsy on the west-central coast of Florida. Three books in this series have been released so far, but I came up with the idea of a writing a fun holiday novella around two of the secondary characters. Voilà! “A Very Whimsy Christmas” was born.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Clementine Martin, who is one of the main protagonists in this story, and I would totally get along. We’re both snarky yet loyal femmes who are protective of the ones we love, but seem to have a knack for finding trouble. I’d love to go out one night and have cocktails with Clem.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
As an artist, Clem likes quirky yet intriguing stuff, so “Lupin,” a French mystery thriller series about a gentleman thief inspired by the adventures of master thief Arsène Lupin, is right up her alley. Her butch counterpart and lover Remy Baumann, an Armstrong Protection Services telecommunications wizard, is all about the American espionage series “Burn Notice” because of what she does for a living.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Clementine is currently obsessed with “Captive in the Underworld” by Lianyu Tan, a dark lesbian romance retelling of the Hades/Persephone abduction story, set in mythological ancient Greece. The novel intrigues her because it’s rooted in the misogyny and cruelties of the Hades/Persephone myth, but is written from a sapphic perspective.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.
Remy is pretty much your standard beer drinker when she occasionally indulges, but Clem lets her artistic side loose when she serves her famous color-changing raspberry-pink lemonade slushies sprinkled with luster dust, which magically change from blue to purple to pink. They’re non-alcoholic, so no one at one of Clem’s parties needs to worry about the alcohol content, but these gorgeous cocktails are still very much like Clem herself: eye-catching, creative, and the talk of the town.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
As far as Clementine and Remy are concerned, no Whimsical Dreams launch party would be complete without Jax Anderson’s “Can You Save Me?“—the theme song to the CIA-focused action drama television series, “Covert Affairs”—kicking off the festivities.
