The poet Robert Burns was born on this day in Alloway, Scotland in 1759.
Burns is most famous for writing the lyrics to the New Year’s Eve classic song, Auld Lang Syne. It’s common in Scotland, and throughout the Scottish diaspora, to hold a Burns Night celebration in the poet’s honor. While some suppers are simple affairs, others feature bagpipers and the Scottish delicacy haggis.
To celebrate Burns Night, we’ve selected three sapphic books set in Scotland.
