On this day in 1914, floral design pioneer Carl Rittner was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
Carl attended Boston University before founding Rittner’s School of Floral Design in the heart of Boston in 1947. His birthday was declared a day to honor floral design by Massachusetts Governor William Weld in 1995. One might assume February 14, Valentine’s Day, would be a better day to honor floral design, but if you know any florists, you’ll know they are too tired to celebrate on the 14th and are probably just now emerging from their pre-V-day exhaustion. If you see a florist, buy them a drink today!
To honor the beauty of floral design and those who do it well, we have selected three books with sapphic florists.
