Why this book and why now?
Last March, an online sapphic book group did a March Madness style tournament bracket of sapphic tropes to see which one was the most popular with readers. After several rounds of voting , ice queens won. Several authors got together and talked about how much fun it would be to create a boxed set of books that featured not one, but two ice queens in each story.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
Thirteen authors originally expressed interest in writing a book featuring two ice queens. Ten ultimately committed to the project. Only three of us completed it. The authors dropped out for multiple reasons, but three quit because writing two women with ice queen personalities and traits who eventually fall for each other turned out to be pretty difficult. Even the three of us who managed it acquired bumps and bruises from the process!
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Requiem for Immortals by Lee Winter. Several of the queens in this story idolize Natalya/Requiem.
Aside from the obvious food and shelter, what 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Isabel would want soft serve ice cream. Polly would want her sketch book. Tonya would be lost without her softball bag with all her gloves, balls, and bats. She’d have the other queens playing ball.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Queen’s, ‘We are the Champions,’ of course!
