Why this book and why now?
After I published Full Circle, my readers kept asking, “What happened to Moira?” And that got me thinking about it. What would she do and how would she get even? And who would stand up to her? So, I wrote Inner Circle to answer those questions and to reveal even more about Moira’s deliciously wicked world.
What is a significant way your book has changed since either the first draft or the way you thought it would turn out when you first had the inspiration?
Inner Circle started out as a revenge tale — Moira gets even with those who betrayed her, compelling her former lackey, Teri Snyder to go after her. But when I started exploring Teri, I realized that this was also a story about love, redemption, and finding the courage to be who you are. I’m always surprised and delighted when a character steps up and demands my attention — more often than not, following that character adds depth to the final product.
What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?
Teri’s favorite book: Teri has a battered copy of Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown that she’s read dozens of times. She loves Molly Bolt because Molly inspired her to reject labels and stereotypes and be who she is without apologizing.
Aside from the obvious food and shelter, what 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
3 things Teri would want if stranded:
1. A Leatherman Super Tool because it’s like having a toolbox in your pocket
2. A year’s supply of espresso roast Colombian coffee (medium grind, in cans to keep it fresh.)
3. A camping coffee pot because what good is coffee if you can’t brew it?
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book!
Teri’s Beverage: Her usual — Guinness Stout — because she’s a creature of habit!
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Teri’s Song: Constant Craving by k.d. lang because she loves k.d. and this song is happy and upbeat.
