Why this book and why now?
I drive by a small shopping center to and from work everyday. While it was under construction I wondered what it would be. Then one day I saw the sign for one of the new stores and laughed out loud. It’s called The Liquor Box and their logo is a pair of ruby red lips with her tongue sticking out, sort of like the Rolling Stones iconic logo. My first thought was naughty and then I hoped lesbians owned the store. I was already thinking about doing a book set in a beauty salon then things began to come together. The Sloan Sisters were born. Three stores, three sisters, three sizzling romances.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
CeCe would be my hair stylist and I would be an honorary Sloan sister. These women are fun, smart, love life and helping others. I would be there everyday, either for a haircut, a six pack or maybe a new book. This shopping center and these delightful folks have everything.
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
I have a list of names that I like and look over them when I start a new book. I’ve wanted to have a Cecilia and call her CeCe for a while now, but it had to be the right character. The hair stylist who doesn’t think she’s quite good enough, but loves to help others was the perfect fit. CeCe Sloan is genuine and you’d want her for a friend.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
CeCe and Alexis like to watch Top Chef and Tournament of Champions on the Food Network. At times CeCe has no idea what they’re cooking, but it’s fun to watch and cheer for you favorite chefs.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it. What do they do?
The back room of CeCe’s sister’s store is a sex toy shop. I didn’t include a scene with a sex toy in the book, but in the beginning of the book, CeCe gives Alexis a little blue vibrator. I imagine this little toy will make an appearance in their love making from time to time.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
We’d play Jennifer Paige’s Crush first because that’s how it started, a little crush. Followed by Lavender Haze by Taylor Swift. Swooning leads to a lavender haze. Don’t you think? Then we’d follow that with Dua Lipa’s Dance The Night because let’s dance!
