Why this book and why now?
I wanted to write something completely different than my last book and had a few other ideas before one day on a long walk I started to think about two women who are scared to say how they feel. It very quickly evolved into a love story between two (hopefully) relatable characters. And who doesn’t a love a good age-gap Sapphic romance?!
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
I may or may not have been listening to a lot of Taylor Swift this past year.
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
Taylor would binge Glee and Brooke would binge The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, even though they’ve both seen each series multiple times.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it. What do they do?
Brooke would take Taylor to Coney Island on a Friday night in the summer. She remembered the time that Taylor told her that she loved going to amusement parks as a kid, not because she liked rides, but because she enjoyed playing in the arcade. They’d go play games despite being the oldest people in the arcade before they went in the bumper cars and Taylor tried to ram her car into Brooke from behind. They’d share a funnel cake before going up on the Ferris Wheel just as the fireworks started to shoot off over the Boardwalk. Taylor would kiss Brooke and tell her she loved her for remembering these little things and being the only prize she’d ever need.
Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book!
Champagne! As Coco Chanel said, “I only drink champagne on two occasions, when I am in love and when I am not.”
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston – an absolutely favorite of Brooke’s and a perfect excuse for her to grab Taylor and dance with her.
