Why this book and why now?
I had just finished the last book of my assassin series and was excited to dive into a new couple (but still hot, criminal, and sapphic since that is my taste). I’ve always been a huge fan of fictional heist films and shows – Ocean’s 8, Leverage, and so forth – but romance always takes a sideline in a lot of this media, even when it’s brimming with sexual tension. So I decided I wanted to marry my loves of both competent, complex criminals with a sapphic relationship, and Double Exposure was born!
Do your character names have special significance or meaning?
So I actually came up with Jillian’s nickname by Sloane, “jewel”, before Jillian actually got her official name. I ended up going through several different J names for her before finding one that sounded right. Sloane’s was equally tricky because I’ve already used a lot of gender-neutral names in my books, and I try not to overlap!
What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?
It’s a bit meta, but I think they would both love Leverage by treating it as a ‘guess the con’ show before the team actually revealed how they were going to get away with their plan every episode. Takes one to know one, right?
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
Both Jillian and Sloane have their trust issues to sort out, so I think one of them managing to set up a date where the other doesn’t know what they’re doing or where they’re going would end up being the most romantic because both of them are so hard to surprise! It could be simple as having a bottle of wine out together on a beach alone somewhere, so long as the two of them felt safe enough to let their guards down.
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
I think it fits the dynamic between Jillian and Sloane very well, even if neither of them would want to admit it!
