Here are Eliza Lentzski’s top sapphic reads of 2023:
1. Meeting Millie by Clare Ashton
This friends-to-lovers slow burn romance is so cozy and dreamy. I can see myself re-visiting these characters whenever I’m feeling a little down. Clare has also gifted us with the greatest sapphic fiction lines ever written: “Voluptuous, shapely, breasts. Magnetic blooming bounties of bosomness.” You won’t be disappointed.
2. Stars Collide by Rachel Lacey
Confession: I’m not normally a fan of the celebrity romance trope, but I’ve loved everything Rachel has written, so I gave this one a chance. I’m so happy that I did! This coming out late in life romance is funny and charming. I found myself rooting for Eden so hard to get out of her own way and to choose happiness.
3. Chef’s Kiss by Stephanie Shea
I devoured the TV series The Bear in a single sitting. When I read the synopsis of this novel– a celebrity chef trying not to fall in love with her eager, talented, but awkward stage–it quickly skipped to the top of my TBR. This book is sexy and real and full of heart.
4. The AM Show by T.B. Markinson & Miranda MacLeod
I love books about career ladies who couldn’t possibly let love get in the way of their professional aspirations and career goals. I love age-gap romances. I love sexy women in business attire. The writing in this book is flawless and effortless.
5. Those Who Wait by Haley Cass
Please don’t yell at me for being so late to the game. I have no idea why it took me so long to read this epic tale. This book reminded me of what it was like to be a reader in my youth–when my parents couldn’t tear the book out of my hands because I was so obsessed. I kept making excuses to go back to this book. I stayed up far too late to read just. one. more. chapter. Charlotte and Sutton will live rent free in your brain long after you’ve turned the final page.
