As the end of the year draws near, we have one question we want to ask book lovers the world over. What were your top 5 sapphic reads of 2023?

Luckily our readers like to share! We look forward to passing along these recommendations to you daily into the new year.

It’s not too late to submit your own top reads and get in on the fun. Click here for the form. Our only rules are that authors may not submit their own books and your list needs to be new-to-you books that were read (not necessarily published) in 2023.

Here are Sandy’s top sapphic reads of 2023:

1. The Doc by Natalie Debrabandere

It is written by a foreign author set in foreign locales. It is a reality with regards to BDSM. I also was impressed that it shares how some of the world addressed the pandemic.

2. They Call Me Dr. Feelgoode by Aunt Georgia Lee

The representation of BIPOC and the issue of AIDS and its continuing impact. I love the strong characters the live life and have positive moral compasses they adhere too…yet allow for differences.

3. Love After Death by Hildred Billings

I love Hildred Billing’s books and this one was not her usual style. I like the fact that it involves so many focal characters and this story is so alive in a way that is brave and compassionate.

4. Pirates of Aletharia by Britney Jackson

I discovered this year that I like lesbian pirates and their adventures. This has the added piece of fantasy that I also find wonderful. Great start to a series.

5. Midlife is the Cat’s Meow by Miranda MacLeod and TB Markinson

It is LOL fun and addresses the amazing adventure of getting old as a sapphic centered person. If you need some fun this is a gem.

More about the books:

Meet Sandy

I am a multi decade Sapphic reader. I read lots of genres but here is my home. I don’t watch TV or go to the theater. I read, and review when moved to do so. I like audio books, eBooks, and print.
