Why this book and why now?

I wrote this one a while ago, but unfortunately, the threat of politically motivated violence isn’t in the past. The event described in the book wasn’t based on one particular incident though. Aside from the real life inspiration, I felt it was time to give one particular character a proper farewell.

Do your character names have special significance or meaning?

I always try to come up with names that have the “right” ring for the character. Jordan Carpenter and Ellie Harding worked well for me from the beginning, but after writing them for a decade, I couldn’t imagine naming them anything else.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

Vigil – because they would be well aware that a TV show with two sapphic investigators as the main characters, is special.

What’s your main character(s)’s favorite book and why?

I might have mentioned this before, but…The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Another Vigil reference, but also because they have to follow rules when going after villains, Lisbeth doesn’t. It would make for a cathartic read.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

Ellie would come up with something spontaneously, while Jordan would plan something elaborate and keep it a secret until the last minute. She might enlist Derek and Kate so she could borrow their boat for a romantic evening, prepare a dinner. In fact, that might be how they spend Valentine’s Day!

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

One of the main characters’ parents own a bar, so they would come up with a signature cocktail for the occasion!

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

She Works Hard for the Money by Donna Summer. Because they do! 🙂
