5 Random Things is our way of helping readers to get to know top sapphic book authors all the while having a bit of fun.

Here are five random facts about Del Robertson.

1. I lived in England during my early childhood and thought it was normal to play in cemeteries and crumbling castles.

2. I had a twin brother that I whole heartedly to this day believe should have been named “Chip”.

3. My next door neighbor had a German Shepard that had to keep going back through security training because I used to go over to play with the “puppy”. I don’t think that dog ever passed his security training.

4. I like to think I’m fairly “butch”, but I will bawl my eyes out during a sad movie scene; especially if it’s something involving an animal.

5. I’ve almost drowned on three different occasions: once in the ocean, once in a swimming pool, and once in a river.

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves small libraries in Washington.

Book banners have been frothing at the mouth for the past few years to get books away from readers. Sometimes, when they can’t ban a book, they try to close down libraries instead. Small towns are particularly vulnerable.

State legislators in Washington are trying to make it harder to close down small-town libraries.

In Columbia County, right wing activists have been trying to close down the only library in the rural area. What started the campaign? The library had a copy of this book: What’s the T?: The Guide to all Things Trans and/or Nonbinary.

The legislators are trying to change an older law to raise the threshold for the number of residents to determine whether a library should be closed. We hope they succeed.

That’s all for today.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
