Why this book and why now?

I feel like addiction and mental health issues run rampant through our community yet very few talk about them. I wanted to write a real slice of life book.

Do your character names have special significance or meaning?

All of the sister’s first and middle names (except one) are named after of some of my favorite musicians.

What TV show would your main character(s) most likely binge watch and why?

I think Morgan would watch Intervention and bawl like a baby because she would be reminded of where she could have ended up.

One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.

Morgan would take Drew for a midnight picnic under the willow tree and serenade her under the moonlight.

Publishing a book is a huge accomplishment and it’s time to party! Choose a celebratory beverage for one of your main characters to toast the release of your new book.

Drew and Morgan would share a bottle of sparkling grape juice.

What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?

Morgan would put on an original song from her band, The Somnambulists.

Meet Kellan McKnight!

Kellan lives in the deep south and shares her life with her beloved wife and an energetic crew of kids and pets. She takes pleasure in life’s finer things, indulging in quality dark roast coffees, ice-cold lagers, and advocating for world peace (in that precise order). Her days are often filled with the harmonious mix of audiobooks, heavy metal music on Spotify, and thrilling scary movies (a necessity for her ADHD), or simply seeking a moment of respite through the art of napping, a welcome escape from her bustling yet remarkable life.

A lifelong writer, Kellan’s journey began when she was a young child, captivated by the beauty of words that sounded alike. By the age of six, her talent had already earned her the title of a published poet, thanks to her mother’s support. Her passion for literature and language deepened when she stumbled upon Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” in her elementary school library during fourth grade, igniting her love for novels.

Despite her neurodivergent journey through education, including Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering serving as a substitute for college classes, Kellan persevered. Kellan’s muggle job, however, often leaves little time for writing upon returning home.

On Kellan’s lifelong to-do list, writing a book held a special place. The stories where happiness prevailed offered Kellan the respite needed to navigate a challenging period, and when on New Year’s Day 2021 she discovered the lesbian romance genre she became instantly hooked. Embracing the ‘life’s too short’ mantra, she made the decision to pick up her pen. Just a few months later, “A Perfect Fit” was born, marking the beginning of her journey as an author.

In the realm of romance, where there are no fixed rules, Kellan’s preference leans toward more realistic storylines. Her aim is to craft stories for the everyday person, steeped in humor and real-life situations that could easily befall you or your neighbor. Inclusivity of different ethnicities, genders, and sexual preferences is paramount to her, as she strives to make her stories resonate with a diverse audience.

Kellan finds inspiration not only in her favorite authors but also in her own sense of humor and personal experiences. Writing serves as a therapeutic outlet for processing and healing.

Unapologetically, she pens her stories with the same candor and meter with which she speaks, admitting to being an “adverb whore,” much to the delight of her editor.

Kellan’s own love story is a testament to the power of love, as she met her wife and kids in an extraordinary whirlwind that saved her from a perilous path. She is determined to inspire others to believe in the transformative abilities of love.

As for her writing, Kellan is a dedicated “pantser” – her stories are not meticulously outlined but rather flow organically, as if her mind is a conduit for the characters’ voices.

In a heartfelt expression of gratitude, Kellan acknowledges the readers who truly breathe life into the stories and is thankful for the opportunity to share her work with the world.

Kellan’s writing journey embodies the essence of genuine, heartfelt storytelling and the belief that love, in all its forms, has the power to heal and transform lives.
