QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves Colorado.

Full disclosure: TB lived in Colorado for many years and it’s where she resided when she came out in the early 90s. At the time, Colorado wasn’t a queer friendly state and TB has many memories of protestors holding hateful signs on the Colorado State University quad as she made her way to classes. She also stood outside Matthew Shepard’s hospital room for a candlelight vigil. It was a difficult time, which makes today’s good news especially emotional.

Despite same-sex unions becoming legal in 2013 and same-sex marriages being legalized in 2015, the Colorado Constitution still included this line: Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state.

This fall, Colorado voters will have the opportunity to alter the constitution to embrace same-sex couples. This will specifically safeguard them in the constitution.

Read more about this right here.

That’s all for today.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
