Meet Joey!

Meet Joey! Joey is the nosiest neighbor of them all! She loves sitting on the porch (3rd floor) and spying on the neighbors 🙂 I house-sat for her mom multiple times and she is the most curious dog I’ve ever met. Submitted by Shani, a sapphic reader.

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves Michigan.

Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, has signed a bill that bans the “LGBTQ+ panic” defense, historically known as the “gay panic” defense, making it illegal to use someone’s identity as rationale for attacking them.

This type of defense allowed people to assert a sexual advance by a queer individual was so startling that it caused them to become temporarily insane, leading them to commit the crime in question.

The bill goes further by expanding legal protections for the LGBTQ+ community, shielding them from acts of violence, discrimination, prejudice, and hate crimes.

Read more about it here.

That’s all for today.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
