Every week, we’ll provide five clues about a sapphic author. This game helps readers get to know their favorite authors while having fun.

Here is today’s clue:

Clue #5: I cowrite books with my childhood friend and our latest release takes place in Bath, England and Salem, Massachusetts. Bath is her favorite place and I love all the cheesy witchiness in Salem.

5 Random Things Edale Lane Graphic

5 Random Things is our way of helping readers to get to know top sapphic book authors all the while having a bit of fun.

Here are five random facts about Edale Lane.

1. Back when I played basket ball, girls games were all half court because, “girls couldn’t possibly run back and forth the whole distance between the goals without passing out.”

2. I once had a pet duck named Mandy after the girl in Barry Manilow’s song by the same name.

3. I wrestled a tractor and lost trying to protect my 4-year-old boy from being run over. It still rolled over the seat of his pants and I eventually ended up with a knee replacement.

4. Being an early grayer, I colored my hair most of my adult life.

5. I may or may not be a descendant of the Scottish poet Bobby Burns.

Meet Miles wearing rainbow bandana photo

Meet Miles. Miles is the sweetest, named for miles we wanted him to run with us but he’s happier chasing the ball and looking for squirrels on our walks instead. He’s everyone’s best friend. Submitted by Lauren P, a sapphic reader.

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves books in Oregon.

Oregon’s House of Representatives approved a bill this week that would prevent anti-LGBTQ+ book bans in schools. The bill now goes to Governor Tina Kotek, a Democrat and the state’s first openly LGBTQ+ governor, who is expected to sign it into law.

According to the Oregon Capital Chronicle, Senate Bill 1098 would stop school and classroom libraries in the state from removing books or other materials solely because they include perspectives, stories, or studies of individuals or groups protected under the state’s anti-discrimination in education law. This protection applies to books by and about LGBTQ+ people, women, and people of color.

That’s all for today.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
