Today is International Mountain Day

Did you know the oldest mountain range, the Barberton Greenstone Belt in South Africa, is 3.6 billion years old?

Mountains have been around a lot longer than humans have, which may be one reason they inspire awe. In 1838, a tradition began at Mount Holyoke College for classes to be canceled one day in early fall so students could climb Mount Holyoke and have ice cream at the summit to the mountains for fun and fitness. However you decide to celebrate the joy of mountains today, we have three books to suggest where mountains play an important role.
