Why this book and why now?
I wrote about Claire’s character in my first release, The Flourishing, and I knew from the start I wanted to spend more time with her. This book centres around a month she spends off work, and particularly one week by the sea. It’s a relaxing atmosphere, full of indulgence and I think it was a nice way to let go of this group of characters that I followed for a year.
Would you and your main character(s) get along?
Claire is a quiet person, so I think we would get along very well, sitting in silence reading. I’d also love to join one of her TTRPG campaigns. She’s a great Game Master!
What 3 things would your main character want with them if they got stranded away from civilization, and why?
Claire is a control freak so she probably would always have a first aid kit at hand, a knife or machete to cut down trees and make shelter herself, and some cooking equipment. It’s hard to surprise her.
One of your main characters is planning a romantic night. Tell us about it.
Knowing Estelle as she does by the end of the book, Claire would probably take her on a high-octane activity. Parachute, paintball… Something exciting that lets her partner blow off some steam!
What song does your character put on to start your book launch party?
Nina Simone’s “I’m feeling good”. The lyrics are quite fitting to the new start both characters get in the book, and it’s a really empowering song that gives me a lot of energy.
