SapphFic Mischief Saturday Morning Graphic
Happy weekend!

Saturdays are when we curate all the sapphic book news and queer happenings of the week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal reading directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good woman loving woman book. What could be better?

In today’s post, you’ll find cheerful LGBTQ+ news stories to combat all the negative ones bombarding our screens.

Sapphic reader Karen submitted a Caturday photo that made us oooh and ah. TB has a soft spot for black cats.

One of the things we love about the weekly lesfic author selfie is getting to know the personality behind the words. Check out sapphic fiction author Jae with the book A Purrfect Gift. It’s never too early to start reading holiday stories especially ones that star a cat!

Finally, scroll to the bottom of the post to see photos of TB & Miranda’s first adventure of 2024, along with photos of two sapphic books in the wild.

Guess the Sapphic Books Author GraphicBefore we get to today’s post, it’s time to reveal the identity of this week’s Guess the Author!

Every week, we’ll provide five clues about a sapphic author. This game helps readers get to know their favorite authors while having fun.

In case you missed them here are the clues:

1. I’m Canadian and I speak French.
2. I love badass women in crime drama, TV & books.
3. I re-watch Carol once a year around the holidays.
4. I have synesthesia (who doesn’t see colors along with letters and numbers?).
5. A character in my latest new release is dealing with an ex (who has trouble letting go).

Now it’s time to reveal their name. Drum roll please…

This week’s author is Barbara Winkes!

Check out Insiders, Barbara’s new release!

Queer News Worth Clicking Graphic

TB is determined to spread good rainbow news during 2024, which let’s face, is going to be a rough year. There are a lot of elections all over the world, which means we’re in for a lot of scaremongering. While it’s important to stay informed, it’s also vital not to lose sight of the all the kindness in the world. Below are the happy queer stories that made TB smile this week. They’re queer news links worth clicking!

Men get married at… checks notes… a rat hole — not the typical spot for a wedding.

LGBTQ+ actors Jodie Foster, Colman Domingo, Lily Gladstone just got Oscar nominations — representation and visibility matters.

Where the heck was TB?

TB loves exploring places near and far, so we’ve created a weekly game where TB goes on an adventure, snaps some photos, and then lets you guess her location.

TB here.

Miranda and I finally went on our first adventure in 2024. And I caught my first cold of the year, so bear with me if the following doesn’t make sense. I’m high on cold medicine and my cough is making it difficult to sleep.

Our destination for the day was Hildene, the summer home of Robert Todd Lincoln (Abraham Lincoln’s son). Not only can you visit the house, but there’s a Pullman train car you can walk through. It’s really fancy! In case you’re wondering why this train car was there, (because I was), Robert Todd Lincoln became president of Pullman after George Pullman’s death.

Miranda and I appreciated that the museum’s exhibit takes a frank look at the unfair and exploitative working conditions for Black Americans who were employed by the Pullman Company. While millionaires like the Vanderbilts rode the rails in high style, the Black porters who served them made only 25 percent compared to the wages of white employees and worked 100 hours per week. Much of America’s modern tipping culture is a result of this era as the Pullman Company’s unlivable wages were subsidized by customers being encouraged to give tips.

On the way, we stopped at the Vermont Country Store since I can’t simply drive by. They have the best peanut butter cookies, despite the $3 price. That’s for one cookie.

At the Vermont Country Store, we snapped photos of The Woman I Found in Me by Jamey Moody.

At Hildene, we took pictures of No Rings Attached by Rachel Lacey.

Now for the photos of our trip and Jamey and Rachel’s books.

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend!

Miranda & TB
