QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves anti-LGBTQ+ bills in Florida.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) presidential primary efforts centered on vilifying the LGBTQ+ community and opposing “woke” diversity initiatives. Not only has he pulled out of the primary, his anti-LGBTQ+ agenda is also facing defeat, mirroring the fate of his unsuccessful campaign.

Following the adjournment of the session, 21 of the most contentious bills proposed nationwide this year have been defeated by the Florida legislature. Only one bill aimed at the queer community was approved, which prohibits educators from receiving training on diversity issues and forbids the teaching of “identity politics.”

While it’s not good one of the bills passed, that fact that 21 failed is a big win. Fingers crossed more anti-LGBTQ+ bills go down in flames.

That’s all for today.
