Luckily our readers like to share! We look forward to passing along these recommendations to you daily into the new year.

It’s not too late to submit your own top reads and get in on the fun. Click here for the form. Our only rules are that authors may not submit their own books and your list needs to be new-to-you books that were read (not necessarily published) in 2024.

Here are Henriette’s top sapphic reads of 2024:

1. Southern Lights by Liz Arncliffe

This is a fabulous debut with ALL the feels: Grief after a devastating loss during the pandemic, a new start in Australia, great secondary characters. The writing is beautiful writing and the various themes are well-balanced.

2. Vengeance Planning for Amateurs by Lee Winter

A somewhat naive muffin baker and an icy henchperson try their hand at vengeance – there is a lot of fun in the flawful execution and at the same time deeper themes emerge. Masterfully written by Lee Winter.

3. The Life Bestowed by Patricia Spencer

I loved how Spencer draw me in as a reader into the life of a trans woman. It was a beautifully written book which felt very real. Thought-provoking without ado. And I loved how Jean Louise, the spinster-lesbian, finally blossoms into love.

4. Unworthy by J. A. Vodvarka

This was a fantastic fantasy debut by JA Vodvarka – the whole trilogy excelled with brilliant world-building and flawless execution. Three awesome reads.

5. Liddy Jean Marketing Queen and the Matchmaking Scheme by Mari SanGiovanni

A complete outlier which defies categorizing. This was a very special book written from the perspective of Liddy Jean. Liddy Jean has a learning disability and a very different world view from “normal people”: she is teeming with ideas and has surprising insights in love and life. Quirky wisdom with a side of love.

More about the books:

Meet Henriette

Just counted and found that I am now reading lesbian/sapphic fiction for about four decades. I read about 200 plus sapphic books a year (so to name only 5 great books is a hardship, wink). Except for horror I love to read a wide range of genres from a equally wide range of authors: every year I discover new great authors. Love that I can share some of those finds here.
