We’ve made it to another Friday and it’s time to celebrate!

Laina Villeneuve is our 5 Random Things author and the facts are fantastic. TB, who was on a paint crew back in college, loved Fact #5.

Author Sage Donnell shares a photo of a dog who is living her best life!

There are 5 Friday freebies! Please note, some of the freebies are only free today, October 24, 2025.

Website countdown graphicCountdown to Record-Breaking Views

Now that we’ve reached the magical number of 10k in the book database, it’s time to announce another number we’re chasing that TB has been keeping a close eye on.

Last year, we had 2,119,942 views.

As of writing this, we’re currently sitting at 2,019,341.

That means we need 100,601 more views to beat last year’s number. We have two months and a couple of weeks to hit that number.

Given that TB is so bad at numbers, it’s funny that she’s been so focused on them lately. Little did she know, when she started IHS all the way back in 2017 that it would become so popular with readers. That thought puts a rainbow in her heart!

Five Random Things about Laina Villeneuve

5 Random Things is our way of helping readers to get to know top sapphic book authors all the while having a bit of fun.

Here are five random facts about Laina Villeneuve.

1. One jury I served on had two former students. The judge was confident that I would have no sway over their thinking.

2. I was released from a jury because I said I went to Humboldt State, and the judge had to tell one of the lawyers Humboldt is the pot capital of the world.

3. The thing I love most about pickleball is having Pickle Pals.

4. I recently fixed my fridge butter door with white glue and the end of a super glue tube.

5. When I interviewed to be on paint crew, they said I was the only one interviewed to say “use a shop vac” if there was a big paint spill.

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE

It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.

This week’s good news involves the Defense Department.

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), which operates schools for more than 67,000 children of military families, violated students’ First Amendment rights by removing books and censoring curricula related to race and gender, a federal judge ruled.

The decision grants a preliminary injunction requested by 12 students attending DoDEA schools, preventing the agency from enforcing three of President Donald Trump’s anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-DEI executive orders and requiring schools to return nearly 600 books to classrooms and libraries while the case continues.

That’s all for today.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
