Happy weekend and Pride!

Saturdays are when we curate all the sapphic book news and queer happenings of the week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal reading directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good woman loving woman book. What could be better?

In today’s post, you’ll find cheerful LGBTQ+ news stories to combat all the negative ones bombarding our screens.

Sapphic reader Irish shares a Caturday photo of a sweet feline given a second chance in life.

One of the things we love about the weekly lesfic author selfie is getting to know the personality behind the words. Check out sapphic fiction author Greta Rose West with the book Light Betrays Us.

Finally, scroll to the bottom of the post to see photos of TB and Miranda’s visit to Kykuit in Sleepy Hollow, New York.

Guess the Author GraphicBefore we get to today’s post, it’s time to reveal the identity of this week’s Guess the Author!

Every week we provide five clues about a sapphic author. On Saturday, we reveal the author’s identity.

Before we unveil this week’s author, here are all 5 clues in case you missed them:

1. My original career path led me toward becoming a sophisticated neuroscientist, particularly focused on the neurocognitive development of schizophrenia as well as psychopathy.
2. My first genre-fiction book, and its subsequent series, included an accidental throuple that turned out to be quite feral.
3. I refuse to read a book that includes a headless naked human torso on the cover.
4. I’m known for passionate rants about very heated topics.
5. Trivia: In 1965, the first ever sneaker marketed toward skateboarders was released. What is the name of this shoe?

Now it’s time to reveal their name. Drum roll please…

This week’s author is Max Ellendale!

Check out Jagged, Max Ellendale’s new release!

Cold Case Detective Jagger Roth’s life hasn’t been the smoothest.

Now, stepping into an epoch of change, Jagger must begin to rely on herself, stand firm in her choices, and finally face the world on her terms.

Max Ellendale’s bio:

Max (she/her) grew up just outside of New York City, spending most of her formative years outdoors creating wild ghost hunts with neighborhood kids, setting booby-traps to capture unwitting family members, and building clubhouses on top of ten-foot walls.

She writes primarily LGBTQ+ sci-fi/fantasy, crime/thriller, and romance stories. Max describes her women-loving-women novels as “edgy romance and crime/thrillers about women rising from the ashes of their experiences and thriving in the context of love and relationships.

Queer News Worth Clicking Graphic

TB is determined to spread good rainbow news during 2024, which let’s face, is going to be a rough year. There are a lot of elections all over the world, which means we’re in for a lot of scaremongering. While it’s important to stay informed, it’s also vital not to lose sight of all the kindness in the world. Below are the happy queer stories that made TB smile this week. They’re queer news links worth clicking!

New York will rename subway station to commemorate 1969 Stonewall uprising — Commemorating our history is important!

Magic Johnson says he’ll always ‘support, guide, and love’ his gay son in moving birthday post — So sweet and great photos!

Dolly Parton announces Broadway musical based on her life — We love Dolly, a fantastic queer ally!

Greta Rose West with Light Betrays Us

Have you read Light Betrays Us by Greta Rose West yet? Here’s the tagline: How many times can you arrest your feisty protestor nemesis before you fall in love with her?

TB and Miranda love exploring places near and far, almost as much as they love a good sapphic book. Follow them on their travels and find out what sapphic books they’ve brought along!

TB here.

Two weekends ago, Miranda and I went to New York to celebrate our 50th birthdays. One of the places we visited was Kykuit. It’s also known as the John D. Rockefeller Estate. This 40-room historic house museum is located in Pocantico Hills, a hamlet within the town of Mount Pleasant, New York, approximately 25 miles (40 km) north of New York City.

The place is impressive, but sadly photos inside the home weren’t allowed. We were able to snap pictures on the grounds. If you’re in the area and have the time and endurance, we went on the three-hour tour. We learned loads and the artwork in the basement is worth it!

Here are some photos of the grounds. It was such a lovely spring day!

Happy Pride!

Miranda & TB
