Saturdays are when we round up all the sapphic book news from the previous week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal queer reading directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good wlw book. What could be better?

We’re Popping Champagne Corks at IHS Headquarters!

The BookFinder database now has over 4,000 books. Wooooooooot!

We launched the new website with the database in October of 2022. In less than a year, we’ve added more than 4,000 books. It boggles TB’s mind, but any number confuses her.

The BookFinder has been searched more than 50,000 times. Readers are able to search by genre, themes/tropes, archetypes, gender/sexual identity, and setting. If you’re a sapphic author and your book isn’t in the database, we highly recommend submitting a BookFinder form. Let us help you get more eyeballs on your book.

Where the heck was TB?

TB loves exploring places near and far, so we’ve created a weekly game where TB goes on an adventure, snaps some photos, and then lets you guess her location.

To answer last’s week’s question, 71% of you got it right. We visited Seelye Mansion in Abilene, Kansas. Also, 16% of you think TB wanted to steal one of the nutcrackers (they have a ton). TB was tempted, because they had a Scooby-Doo nutcracker! Adorbs. But, TB, who had been an avid watcher of the cartoon during her childhood, remembers one of the themes: crime doesn’t pay. You always get caught.

Now for this week’s guessing game.

On their epic road trip from Massachusetts to Colorado, TB and Miranda stopped in a city TB has been dying to go to for ages and it’s possible she proposed the road trip to GCLS to make that happen.

For years, TB has been dragging Miranda to Hartford to visit Mark Twain’s home there. Today’s mystery city has a very strong connection to Mark Twain. Due to the heat and humidity, TB didn’t lug a sapphic book around during their visit. Also, she was too excited to remember a book.

Here are some clues about the city.

1. It’s located along the Mississippi River (the city was developed for river traffic) and is in the state of Missouri.

2. In 1830, the city had a population of 30. By 1846, it was the third largest city in Missouri.

3. It’s best known for having the boyhood home of author Samuel Langhorne Clemens (aka Mark Twain).

4. You can also visit the Mark Twain Cave, which TB insisted they do. There are a couple photos below.

5. It was also the birthplace (the white and red brick home) of Margaret Brown, who is best known as the Unsinkable Molly Brown. She survived the sinking of the Titanic.
