5 Random Things is our way of helping readers to get to know top sapphic book authors all the while having a bit of fun.
Here are five random facts about S. Y. Thompson.
1. I love running around barefoot, whether in the house or outside. There’s nothing like the feel of grass between my toes, and even the gravel driveway doesn’t bother me much.
2. Most people who know of me know that I’m a retired Marine and San Diego deputy sheriff. Very few know I spend my extra time these days working on a Tennessee Disaster Response Team.
3. I tend to come across as serious or reserved. I’m really a big kid who laughs out loud every morning to the antics of Scooby Doo. He’s my hero.
4. I’ve driven a three-wheeler with a cast on my arm and a motorcycle the day after reconstructive ankle surgery. The only thing that scares me are goats. Seriously, rectangular pupils?
5. I’m a quarter Cherokee and an eighth Apache. The owl is my spirit animal.
Have you read Besieging the Moon yet?

Before buying a “free” book, please ensure it’s free in your marketplace. Amazon has a habit of changing the price of permafree titles in stores outside of the US. Please know this it out of the author’s control and we are unable to check prices in all Amazon stores.

Osi is the sweetest old lady who has done so much for me in terms of my mental health. She’s a rescue, but at the risk of sounding cliché, she definitely rescued me too. Submitted by Renee, a sapphic reader.

QUEER NEWS THAT’LL MAKE YOU SMILE
It can seem sometimes like all the news these days is bad. We won’t deny there’s a lot of troubling things going on, including a rise in hate crimes. But it’s not all terrible out there! We want to do our best to highlight good news, because while it may seem like the world is filled with hate, there are many individuals who are living their best lives with a rainbow in their heart.
This week’s good news involves an old man at a Pride parade in Portugal.
During Pride in Porto, there was a moving interaction with a parade-goer and an old man. Lily was marching in the parade when the man motioned for her to come over.
He was in his doorway, waving a Portuguese flag. Lily wasn’t sure what the gentleman wanted and was even a little nervous as to his intentions. He wrapped his flag around her. Lily gave the man her Progress Pride flag and they hugged.
The gentleman was so moved, he started to cry, giving a thumbs up. After they broke apart, the man waved the Progress flag. Not only did it move the crowd, but the video has gone viral. It shows the real power of Pride and love.
You can watch the video here.
That’s all for today.
Wishing all of you a wonderful Friday!
