Here are Margaret’s top sapphic reads of 2024:
1. Champagne Kisses by MJ Duncan
So perfect! Can I give more than 5 stars? I LOVED this story! The characters and their relationship were perfect. And the wedding was so much fun! I just really want to spend more time with these characters!
2. Sweet is Her Heart by Isabella Eden
So sweet! I loved this sweet story! It’s a fast read, but is so romantic and heartwarming. Both main characters are just wonderful people, and so interesting. The plot is excellent. It’s not totally happy, but the ending is perfect.
3. Winter Wolf by C. A. Hall
Just read this book! I really loved this book! I got into it right away and just couldn’t stop reading. The writing is good, but there are quite a few errors of various kinds. I love the book in spite of those errors. It’s a short book, but the characters still have depth and chemistry. They are unique and so are their circumstances. Just read it! A new favorite! I’ll have to read some of this author’s other books.
4. The Secrets we Keep by Donna Jay
So much fun! But not just fun; there’s depth too. I listened to the audio version. Cat Gould is excellent! I love listening to the Kiwi accent. It makes the book more fun. This book has so many things I loved–age gap, dual POV, ice queen, drama, etc. The characters are both very well developed and likable. It has hot scenes but they aren’t gratuitous at all, except maybe the one that takes Sadie by surprise. Yes, it’s all kind of unrealistic, but still very much fun. I didn’t hear any errors. This might end up being a favorite.
5. Finally Loved by Jacqueline Ramsden
I really can’t find even a minor flaw with this book.
I loved this book! The writing is really good, and I caught very few minor errors, mainly a few sentences that I couldn’t quite work out the meanings of, although I got the gist. I loved both main characters (and the secondary characters) and how they were distinct and unique. I also loved the exploration of asexuality (and allosexuality) and how it works in practical terms. I know that everyone’s experience is different, and this is only a story of one situation, but I don’t think I’d ever read this much about it. I haven’t read much by Jacqueline Ramsden before, but I will definitely pick up more titles. The story seems to take place in an unknown place, and some things seem British, but other things don’t. This author does a good job of making the story vague enough to be without a distinct setting. I did wonder about the ages of the main characters, and what they do for work. Work is mentioned, but no specifics are provided. Not important, but I just noticed the lack of details. The characters had excellent chemistry, although not sexual, and the relationship was fulfilling to the reader and the characters, as was their communication. I really can’t find even a minor flaw with this book. And more on the subject of asexuality is definitely welcome!
