SapphFic Mischief Saturday Morning Graphic
Happy weekend!

Saturdays are when we curate all the sapphic book news and queer happenings of the week into one convenient location. Think of it as your personal reading directory! After all, we know the weekend is when so many of us are able to unwind for a minute and want to get lost in a good woman loving woman book. What could be better?

In today’s post, you’ll find cheerful LGBTQ+ news stories to combat all the negative ones bombarding our screens.

Sapphic reader Shani shares a Caturday photo of a beautiful feline who does a fantastic Dracula impression!

One of the things we love about the weekly lesfic author selfie is getting to know the personality behind the words. Check out sapphic fiction author Tamara Jerée with A Wolf Steps in Blood.

Finally, scroll to the bottom of the post to see photos of TB and Miranda’s visit to a covered bridge in Connecticut.

Guess the Author GraphicBefore we get to today’s post, it’s time to reveal the identity of this week’s Guess the Author!

Every week we provide five clues about a sapphic author. On Saturday, we reveal the author’s identity.

Before we unveil this week’s author, here are all 5 clues in case you missed them:

1. I stopped counting how many times I’d seen Aliens (with Sigourney Weaver) after the 117th viewing.
2. My first novel, a paranormal romance, was published in 2023 and I’m already working on the sequel.
3. My first concert was Olivia Newton-John, and my most recent concert was Iron Maiden.
4. For my latest novel, I researched how African colonies gained independence from the British Empire.
5. I never let a bad angle or terrible light keep me from sharing a perfect moment.

Now it’s time to reveal their name. Drum roll please…

This week’s author is Virginia Black!

Check out No Shelter But the Stars, Virginia Black’s new release!

Cover of No Shelter But the Stars

Virginia Black’s No Shelter But the Stars is the space opera you’ve been waiting for—packed with warring worlds, romantic adventure, and larger-than-life characters.

Kyran Loyal is the last heir to the lost throne of a forgotten planet, the figurehead of a nomadic people fleeing the galactic tyranny of a brutal regime. Davia Sifane is the unrecognized daughter of an imperial despot. When happenstance pits them against each other in battle, neither expects the outcome: they are the only two people to survive. Marooned on a barren moon, their only hope of survival is to rely on each other, but what they learn will either kill them or change the galaxy forever.

Get No Shelter But the Stars here.

Virginia Black’s bio:

VIRGINIA BLACK (she/her) is the author of NO SHELTER BUT THE STARS (sci-fi romance, 2024) and CONSECRATED GROUND (paranormal romance, 2023) — both from Bywater Books — as well as several short stories and works of fan fiction. She enjoys strong whiskey, loud music, and writing about angsty protagonists, though not necessarily in that order. When not penning dark speculative sapphic fiction, she is almost always reading or lurking on RPG sites. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her wife of 21 years (and counting) and their savagely witty teenage daughter.

Monday kicks off a fresh Guess the Author game!

Queer News Worth Clicking Graphic

TB is determined to spread good rainbow news during 2024, which let’s face, is going to be a rough year. There are a lot of elections all over the world, which means we’re in for a lot of scaremongering. While it’s important to stay informed, it’s also vital not to lose sight of all the kindness in the world. Below are the happy queer stories that made TB smile this week. They’re queer news links worth clicking!

Arizona governor vetoes bill seeking to erase trans folks from public life — Thanks for standing up for human rights!

Anti-LGBTQ+ bills keep failing. Could the tide be turning? — We hope so!

Lance Bass got a welcome gift from the “king of the gay mafia” after he came out — Another reason to love this singer!

Elliot Page’s new lesbian cheerleading film Backspot gets new trailer — Can’t wait for this one!

Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan calls for a queer love story on the hit Netflix series — We’d love that!

Meet Shmoop! Black and white cat.

Meet Shmoop! Shmoop is a very much beloved and very well treated former stray who waltzed his way into the house (and the heart). He likes to roam the streets all day long and comes home in the evening to get some cuddles. Submitted by Shani, a reader.

Tamara Jeree with A Wolf Steps in Blood

Have you read A Wolf Steps in Blood by Tamara Jerée yet? Here’s the tagline: An endangered red wolf, her exiled blood witch, and a wish for prophecy.

TB and Miranda love exploring places near and far, almost as much as they love a good sapphic book. Follow them on their travels and find out what sapphic books they’ve brought along!

TB here.

Two weekends ago, I was itching to get out of my apartment, but the weather wasn’t all that great. Instead of going for a hike, I opted for a drive to see a covered bridge in West Cornwall, Connecticut. Miranda was kind enough to join me. We brought along You Matter by Jazzy Mitchell.

Here are some photos.

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend!
