TB loves exploring places near and far, so we’ve created a weekly game where TB goes on an adventure, snaps some photos, and then lets you guess her location.
To answer last week’s mystery, 67% of you were right. Miranda and I visited the Concord Colonial Inn. Also, 25% of you guessed my own shadow scared me because I thought it was a ghost. It’s possible that’s correct and I’m often scared by my own shadow. It’s never where I think it should be, really.
Now for this week’s guessing game.
Miranda and TB finished their latest cowrite and shipped it off to the editor. Also, TB just published the latest Lizzie book. They were in the celebrating mood, so they headed to one of their favorite spots for lunch and wine.
Here are some facts about the winery.
1. The place is Massachusetts’s leading fruit wine producer and the nation’s pioneering “winery orchard.”
2. The winery has over 100 national and international medals to its credit.
3. Jack Partridge, one of the founders, believed winemakers could ferment fruits other than grapes and he teamed up with Larry Ames, a Brown University graduate, and probably the first commercial winemaker in Massachusetts.
4. The winery produces 37 different wines and over 13000 cases per year.
5. In 1995, there was a new team at the winery, who wanted to bring west coast concepts to an east coast farm. “A visit had to become an experience; a place where people gather to experience open land and dirty hands.”
6. The place has a restaurant with delicious food.
7. Miranda dragged TB there when researching owning a winery for Miranda’s Accidental Honeymoon, and TB spent an afternoon picking grapes, griping the entire time. It’s backbreaking work, but TB got a nice meal and wine out of the deal.
For this week’s Sapphic Books in the wild, we took Off the Menu by Alaina Erdell, which stars a chef and releases on Amazon this Tuesday. If you can’t wait, you can get buy it direct from Bold Strokes Books.
Here are the photos of the winery (from this visit and previous ones to see it in different seasons), including some shots of Off the Menu.
Time to vote on the name of the winery in Bolton, Massachusetts!
Polls are open until March 16 and the answer will be revealed on Saturday, March 18.
