JJ Arias’s bio:

JJ Arias, an Amazon best-selling author and proud Cuban-American from Miami, infuses her narratives with the vibrancy of her heritage and the warmth of her home city. Originally a fan fiction writer, JJ transitioned to original stories to better represent the LGBTQ+ community. Known for her humorous dialogue and palpable tension, she brings life to her works with a style as lively as Miami itself. Her writing is a celebration of diversity, humor, and the depth of everyday experiences. JJ and her wife live in South Florida with too many cats, a melancholy pitbull, and a parakeet that chooses violence at every opportunity.

DA Hartman with Under the Rainbow

TB and Miranda love exploring places near and far, almost as much as they love a good sapphic book. Follow them on their travels and find out what sapphic books they’ve brought along!

TB here.

A couple of weeks ago, Miranda and I visited the Lizzie Borden house in Fall River, Massachusetts. For those unfamiliar with Lizzie Borden, she was accused of murdering her father and stepmom with an axe in 1892. The subsequent trial became a media sensation throughout the United States and even internationally. She was acquitted and the murder has never been solved. I have to admit, I thought the tour would be super cheesy, but it was extremely informative and well done.  After learning more about the events, we believe Lizzie was truly innocent, or at least that she was far from the only one involved.

I should note, the house is a bed and breakfast, and you can even stay in the “murder room” where Abby Borden’s body was found. In fact,  several years ago, Miranda had a friend who booked the inn for the days right before and after her wedding, which was taking place in nearby Bristol, RI. When the friend mentioned to the innkeepers on the morning of her wedding that she was getting married that day, they gave the happy couple a free upgrade to the murder room for their wedding night.

Here are some photos. One of the photos is of Lizzie in her later years with a dog on her lap. Trigger warning: a couple of the photos depict bodies (which are dummies) with fake blood to recreate the crime scene. In case you are wondering, you can ask to have the body removed from the murder room for your stay, but apparently most people don’t. (For the records, the dummies are a recent addition, and to Miranda’s knowledge, her friend did not spend her wedding night with a dead body on the floor.)

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend!

Miranda & TB
